Your phone consultation appointment is confirmed. Thank You

What to Expect on your call:

Your phone consultation may be anywhere from 15 -30 minutes long. It is an opportunity for Dr. Cox to learn more about you and for you to decide if you'd like to continue therapy with him. First impressions are one of the best indicators of success in the therapeutic relationship, so the stakes are heightened for this call to go well on both sides.

It’s normal to feel nervous about this first call. However, rest assured knowing that you’re taking the first step in your mental health journey. So here’s a guide to everything you can expect, including what questions Dr. Cox will likely ask you.

Dr. Cox will typically start off the call with a few questions to get to know you better, so he can make sure he's qualified to meet your needs. This includes questions about why you want to see a therapist, how you’ve been feeling over the past few weeks, and your goals for therapy.

Here are some questions he may ask you on the initial call:

  • Why are you considering therapy now?
  • Have you been in therapy before?
  • What are you looking for in a therapist?
  • What has worked in the past, and what hasn’t?

If possible, take a few minutes before the call to reflect on these topics so you can have a clearer sense of your goals for therapy. But don’t worry if you can’t verbalize the answer to any of these questions, that’s okay too! We'll get through it just fine!

At the end of the call, you’ll typically have the opportunity to schedule a first session.

Alternatively, if you feel you need more time to consider, Dr. Cox will send you an email or text with open times, or send you a link to schedule an appointment directly through his booking platform.

What If You Don't Wish To Move Forward With Dr. Cox?

That's okay, just be honest with yourself and Dr. Cox. If you don’t think he's the right fit or you’re not sure you can say so. You could say something like this:

  • “Thank you so much for your time. I’m grateful to have learned more about your expertise. As it stands, I’m going to continue in my search for a therapist but I'll contact you if anything changes.
  • “I’m considering a few options, but can I get back to you?”

Dr. Cox is a professional. It’s much better to be direct than to waste your time scheduling a session you won’t be excited to attend. He also will not take your rejection personally - it happens. It’s best for both you and Dr. Cox to feel a sense of connection before you begin your sessions together and if it isn’t there, he might not be the best fit for you.

Dr, Cox will offer to send you a list of some great therapists in your area. Just make sure to follow up and let                   him know so he knows you’re in good hands!
